Description:
Ivanacara bimaculata is a freshwater fish species belonging to the family Cichlidae, native to South America. This species thrives in soft, acidic waters rich in tannins and leaf litter, mimicking its natural habitat.
As its name suggests, bimaculata refers to the “two spots” commonly visible on the fish’s body — one on the midsection and another near the base of the tail — which serve as distinguishing features. Ivanacara bimaculata typically displays a subtly iridescent body coloration with hues ranging from olive green to brown, often accented by darker vertical bars and a metallic sheen.
This species is relatively peaceful for a cichlid and can be kept in community aquariums with similarly sized, non-aggressive fish. They exhibit interesting behavior, especially during breeding, when pairs form strong bonds and actively guard their eggs and fry.
Ivanacara bimaculata is valued by aquarists for its unique appearance, intriguing behavior, and adaptability to well-maintained aquariums
